World War II Memorial Vandal Faces Two Felony Counts

The charges are for destruction of veterans’ memorials and depredation against property of the U.S.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) charged a woman for vandalizing the World War II memorial in Washington, D.C., and she faces two felony counts in court. She spray-painted words on the memorial in bright pink, and threw bubble soap into the fountain. Officials estimate that repair costs are already over $1,000.

The woman also uploaded, under a different name, a recording of the memorial defacing on social media, which led to her identification and arrest.

“Vandalizing our World War II Memorial is a despicable attack on a sacred monument honoring the Americans who fought and died for our freedom,” U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said. She stated that the felony charges were “Depredation Against Property of the United States and Destruction of Veterans’ Memorials, in Federal District Court.”

The offenses carry penalties of up to ten years in prison.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Justice Department officials as they prosecute vandalism and seek to uphold federal laws protecting memorials and monuments.
  • For National Park Service personnel as they oversee the repair of the World War II Memorial and increase security over the nation’s memorials and monuments.
